Biography
Kyle William Stephens is a teacher, pianist, composer, and jazz-type person. Kyle started piano lessons at eight because he had taught himself to read music and play the Titanic theme song, something he's embarrassed to admit now. He studied jazz piano with Frank Caruso at age 15 and by 17 was admitted into the jazz programs University of North Texas, Arizona State, University of Illinois and Northern Illinois University. Kyle attended NIU, studying jazz piano with Willie Pickens and classical piano with Jeong-Soo Kim and William Koehler. Kyle switched his major to composition and received his bachelors degree. Kyle currently maintains a large studio of piano students and some trombone students.
Besides the music stuff Kyle is a visual artist, writer, humorist, and terrible juggler. Kyle enjoys train watching, bird-watching and nature being-in. His favorite biomes are temperate broadleaf forests and boreal forests. His favorite birds are dabbling ducks. His least favorite bird is the red-winged blackbird for deep-seated personal reasons.
